How to Store Coffee Beans So They Stay Fresh
Coffee goes stale from air, light, heat and moisture. Fighting those four keeps your bag tasting like day one.
The rules
- Keep beans in an airtight container or the sealed bag, pressed flat to push out air.
- Store in a cool, dark cupboard, away from the stove, sunlight and the fridge door.
- Skip the fridge and freezer for beans you use daily. Moisture and odors get in.
- Grind only what you will brew. Ground coffee stales much faster than whole beans.
- Buy an amount you will finish within a few weeks of opening.
Instant coffee
Once opened, use Sweet Brew or Mushroom Fuse within 3 months, and keep the pouch tightly closed.
Quick answers
How long do whole beans stay fresh?
Best within a few weeks of opening. They do not spoil quickly, but flavor fades.
Should I freeze coffee?
Not for everyday use. Repeated thawing introduces moisture.
